Happy Birthday & Balloons
Good morning! I hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday so far. Today I’m sharing a project that goes along with the 30 Day Color Challenge. I am using Distress Inks to color in some pieces and make a card. The great thing about this challenge is that it gets you to use all different types of mediums, but somehow I always gravitate back to my favorites. To try to mix it up a little bit, today I’m coloring my images in a way I don’t often use.
I started by die cutting the balloons from Celebration Box out of some Bristol Smooth card stock. Then I stamped them each with a different flower from the Zen Flowers set. I used the sticky VersaMark ink and some clear embossing powder to heat emboss the images on each balloon. It’s hard to see in the photo above, but once the color is on them you’ll see the pattern easily!
Then I took three Distress Ink colors (Crushed Olive, Wild Honey, and Dried Marigold) and used my mini ink blender to apply color to each balloon. This is where the patterns really show up and look amazing. If you feel like your pattern isn’t showing up, use a slightly damp paper towel to rub the ink off of the embossed part. With the clear embossing it comes off with no problem! I also die cut a large tag shape from Bristol Smooth card stock (which my balloons are sitting on) for the card base.
I heat embossed the strings towards the left side of the tag using my VersaMark and, this time, some dark gray embossing powder. I used a light hand to add the Wild Honey and Dried Marigold Distress Inks on the edges of the tag, leaving the center lighter. Then I used foam tape to pop up the balloons over the strings.
I also pulled the little circle cluster from the Celebration Box set and heat embossed some to look like confetti in a couple places on the card. It added some cute interest to the scene.
I finished the card off with a sentiment made from a couple different products from the new release. I die cut the word ‘birthday’ and its shadow from Neenah Solar White card stock. I love this new trend with word dies, and the set that this comes from, Hooray Day, is just as amazing as you’d expect. I colored the actual letters in with a cool gray Copic marker and glued them to the shadow. I attached it to the tag base with foam tape. I borrowed the word ‘happy’ from the Hooray stamp set and stamped it in black ink above birthday. There was a little detail die that came with the tag die for the hole at the top which I cut out and colored in the same gray as the words, and attached it with glue. That finishes off this card for today! I hope you enjoyed the techniques I shared. Have you been getting your coloring in for Kathy’s 30 day challenge?! I know I’ve been slacking, but with all this great inspiration I’ve been seeing I’ll be back at it in no time!
Thanks for stopping by today! I’ll be back again soon with another card 🙂
